What do I do if I'm raped?
If you were raped, the first step is reporting the rape (immediately after the incident.) Do not take a shower or change your clothes. Although this is going to be your first instinct refrain from doing so. Go to your local hospital and tell them you have been raped. We understand the last thing you are going to want is an exam after such a horrible trauma, but it will be needed to ensure your health and for evidence against your assailant. Call any friends or family that you trust for support. Most cities and towns have programs and shelters where you can find counselors and people who have shared your experience and who can give you the support and protection you need.
Whether you are a minor or an adult, reporting your rape takes courage. Your life may be unstable for a while after you tell, but you will have people to help you. They will make sure you
receive the therapy you will need so that your abuse will not destroy the rest of your life.
